Scott’s Bio

Scott SquiresIn 1969, I purchased my 1st SLR camera, a Minolta SRT 101 with a 50mm f1.2 lens. I spent 20 years using that wonderful camera. Trips to Yosemite and the California shoreline are still vivid memories. One Saturday morning in 1995 I went to Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and was amazed at the group of Photographers that were lined up on the wood bridge with giant lenses photographing the birds as they flew above. I was Hooked! Eventually I purchased a Canon EOS 1N and a 600mm lens and spent a 100 weekend mornings on that Bridge. In 1996 I purchased my first Large Format View Camera, a Zone VI 4×5. There is nothing more beautiful than an Image on the ground glass of a view camera! The first Image I shot with that 4×5 camera was a cactus in bloom at Heisler Park in Laguna Beach. That Image is still one of my all time favorites and is one of the Images in my booth this Summer at the Laguna Art A Fair in Laguna Beach.

I started doing my own film development in 2006. Seeing that sheet of film being developed and turning into an Image was and still is a fascinating experience. During this same time frame I also started doing my own Printing.

I only shoot film and will continue to do so as long as film is available! I do my own B&W developing and color E-6 developing using a Jobo CPP-2 drum processor. The cameras in my kit are 35mm, Medium Format, 6×17 Panorama, 4×5, 4×10 and 8×10. All of my Images are printed us ing Epson 3880 and 7900 printers. I also do contact printing in my wet darkroom.

2016 is my 5th summer at the Laguna Art A Fair and I have moved back to my favorite booth B32, which is in the back right corner when you enter the AAF grounds. I look forward to seeing many of you this summer!

My wife Denise and I have traveled all over the South West and I have been able to photograph some of the most beautiful places in the World! Another wonderful part of Photography is learning about the history of the people and historical events that have taken place in the area. Photography has been a wonderful adventure and a very fulfilling part of my life!
